Marianne Vos won World Cup Ronde van Drenthe

Ronde van Drenthe – 3 Round women UCI World Cup

Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) was the clear victor in  3 Round World Cup Ronde van Drenthe. In the battle for second Kirsten Wild (AA Drink-Leontien.nl) was ahead of World Road Champion Giorgia Bronzini (Forno d’Asolo Colavita).

In the Drenthe race the peloton’s appetite for attacking was lost and the peloton stayed together for    about 75 %  of the race. The only real attack came already after about 30 kilometres. Janneke Kanis (Nederland Bloeit) and Alison Starnes (Team USA) saw an opportunity to attack before the first cobbled section near Gees. The two riders managed to get a maximum lead of two minutes lead, before the peloton started to get organised  and formed the chase. With 60 kilometres to go the race was all together.

With 13 kilometers to go  tried Emma Johansson (Team Hitec Products UCK) to make a decision. Marianne Vos, Kirsten Wild and Martine Bras (Dolmans Landscaping) closed the gap and also the whole peloton. Then the teams were trying to get up their sprinters.

With 50 meters to go Marianne Vos moved to the front and won the 3 Round World Cup Ronde van Drenthe. ,, With 200 meters to go I was not in the best position.to win the sprint.  But at all I won and after two times a second place here in Hoogeveen I am very happy with this victory.”

Annemiek van Vleuten (Nederland Bloeit)  finished at the 6 place and is the after the 3 Round the new World Cup leader.,,I t was to-day not my best sprint, but good enough to be the new leader. That mkes me very happy”, was what Marianne Vos teammate said after the sunny weather with only a few of wind race in the North of the Netherlands.
